Graduate and undergraduate engineering students are invited to enter the 2010 ASME Student Mechanism and Robot Design Competition, which will be held in conjunction with the 34th ASME Annual Mechanisms and Robotics Conference and the 2010 ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences (IDETC 2010) in Montreal this summer.
The conferences (www.asmeconferences.org/IDETC2010) will take place from Aug. 15–18 at the Fairmont the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Students who are interested in participating in the contest must submit a single-page letter of intent to the contest organizers by April 2.
The ASME Student Mechanism and Robot Design Competition is an opportunity for full-time undergraduate and graduate students to showcase their abilities in designing mechanisms and robots.
This competition consists of two rounds. In round one, students submit a report on their design. In the second round, a few selected teams from round one will be invited to the conference to present their design. Winners of the competition will be recognized during the Mechanisms and Robotics Luncheon at the conference venue, and presented with awards. In the past, these prizes have included both cash and software.
The National Science Foundation has provided funding to support the travel costs of up to two participants from each design team making it to the final round. The funds will cover the team’s ASME IDETC registration, hotel stay, airfare, and meals on a per diem basis. Students from all U.S.-based institutions are eligible for this funding.
Students who want to participate should remember the following dates:
- April 2 — Letters of intent due;
- May 3 — Final written reports due;
- June 15 — Deadline for notifying contest finalists; and
- Aug. 15-18 – Final round of the competition.
Details on how to participate can be found at the contest Web site, www.stevens.edu/msrobotics/SMRDC2010. |
