THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL AND NUCLEAR ENGINEERING AT THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY is seeking applicants for several faculty positions. The Department is seeking to fill three open faculty positions that include the following: Position 1 - the William E. Diefenderfer Chair in Mechanical Engineering; Position 2 Р Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering; and Position 3- Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Nuclear Engineering. The Department is home to 48 faculty, 250 graduate students, and 750 undergraduate students. The vibrant department conducts in excess of $27M in annual research expenditures while having a strong commitment to teaching. The Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering Programs each offer the full range of undergraduate and graduate degrees in their respective fields. THE HERRICK PROFESSORSHIP was established by an endowment from the Herrick Foundation in 1994. It will be awarded for the third time to a distinguished scholar who is internationally recognized for his or her research. In addition to conducting research activities in emerging areas, the Herrick Professor will also focus on the development and transfer of the science and technology for the benefit of American industry in the areas of heating, refrigeration, air conditioning and related fields. The endowment provides salary support and discretionary funding for the Herrick Professor’s research activities, which will be conducted at the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories, a part of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. HVAC&R research and education have been major areas of work at the Herrick Laboratories for over fifty years and the International Compressor Engineering and Refrigeration Conferences held every 2 years at Purdue are among the many continuing education activities hosted by the Herrick Laboratories. The Herrick Professor of Engineering is expected to provide leadership in education, research and service, and will have a track record that demonstrates these leadership qualities. Candidates should possess outstanding research and teaching abilities, and should have an earned doctorate in engineering or a related discipline. The successful candidate is expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels and to collaborate with other faculty in expanding research activities funded by industry and government. Applicants must provide: (1) a detailed resume of experience and qualifications, (2) a one or two page description of the candidate’s views on the key issues to be addressed by an academic research institution in the areas covered by this professorship, and (3) upon request, at least five references. THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MAINE invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering to begin in September 2010. THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL & ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure line faculty position at the level of an Assistant or untenured Associate Professor who will: Develop the scientific basis and engineering methods to promote the development of a sustainable built environment, including buildings, infrastructure, renewable energy systems and smart grids; and Educate future academic and industry leaders to master and apply these theories and methods. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING (025163). The L. C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Specific areas of interest are: Solid mechanics, in particular, biomechanics with specialization in one or more of the following areas of cardiovascular mechanics, bone mechanics, cellular mechanics, mechanical characterization of soft and hard biological tissues, biomembranes, implant analysis and joint replacement. Energy systems, in particular, building-related energy supply and conservation with specialization in one or more of the following areas of wind turbines, solar energy conversion and utilization, geothermal energy, combined heating, cooling and power, energy storage, intelligent control of building energy and environmental systems. THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT OF TRINITY COLLEGE (www.trincoll.edu) invites applications to fill a tenure-track position in Mechanical Engineering at the Assistant Professor level starting fall 2010. Trinity has an ABET-accredited Engineering Program. The successful candidate will teach primarily undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering and be committed to teaching science courses for non-science majors.
