Zero point clamping system
JERGENS INC., CLEVELAND, OHIO. The company has added a zero point clamping system to its line of quick change fixturing solutions. According to Jergens, the advantages of zero point clamping systems are that they combine ease of alignment, high-accuracy positioning, and high clamping forces with the ease of hydraulic or pneumatic actuation. Jergens will offer individual modules, complete systems and plates, as well as design and technical assistance. Jergens says the zero point system reduces machine setup procedures into a single step and simplifies the unlocking and removal of the clamping device. The system eliminates the need to search for the bore, minimizing the risk of damage to high-precision zero-point bores and nipples.

Metalized EMI filters
LCR ELECTRONICS, NORRISTOWN, PA. The company says its new 095 EMI filters reduce component cost and provide better safety characteristics in large appliances, such as dishwashers and top- or front-load washing machines. The new 095 Series filters use a metalized film technology that delivers high reliability and fail-safe characteristics similar to more expensive, older technologies, LCR says. If a failure occurs, the metalization over the film evaporates, keeping electrodes of opposite polarity from touching and causing a short circuit. This protection significantly reduces the chance of fire and explosion, while ensuring that power is still available to equipment in a safe, operational mode.

Self-tightening wedge grips
MARK-10 CORP., COPIAGUE, N.Y. The model G1061 wedge grip is designed for a range of tensile testing applications up to 1,200 lb. (5.3 kN). Typical applications include the testing of plastics, metals, packaging materials, and medical devices. Serrated, hardened stainless steel jaws are opened with an ergonomically designed spring-loaded knob and rack-and-pinion type mechanism. The jaws ride on rollers instead of sliding along the surface of the housing, as in many conventional wedge grips. The design prevents jamming and improves gripping characteristics. The jaws are 0.75 in. (19 mm) wide, and the open housing design permits the testing of samples of any width. Maximum sample thickness is 0.25 in. (6 mm), making the grip useful for a range of requirements. The grip is designed to mount to almost any force gauge, test stand, or material tester.

Corrosion-resistant pumps
KNF NEUBERGER INC., TRENTON, N.J. Corrosion-resistant diaphragm process pumps are designed for sampling, transferring, evacuating, or compressing aggressive gases in a range of challenging industrial applications. The electrically operated and oil-free pumps can be customized with a variety of available materials, motor types, and configurations to suit unique specifications. KNF corrosion-resistant process pumps combine high-grade steels and solid PTFE (or other inert materials for the wetted head portion) with a laminated layer of corrosion-resistant material over the diaphragm. The combination resists corrosion and contributes mechanical and thermal resistance, high tensile strength, and resistance to pressure. The integration of laminated PTFE additionally promotes increased pump flexibility and longer service life, the company says. Depending on type, the pumps can achieve flow rates up to 300 L/min. (10 SCFM), maximum vacuums up to 29.8 in. Hg, and maximum pressure up to 176 psig.

Self-cleaning flow meter
SIERRA INSTRUMENTS, MONTEREY, CALIF. The Steel-Mass model 640S immersible thermal mass flow meter is now available with a new self-cleaning purge port. The purge system utilizes compressed air from an external source and a uniquely designed cleaning nozzle to blast particulates away from the thermal sensing elements, without removing the flow meter from the pipe. The company says the self-cleaning meter is designed for demanding industrial gas mass-flow measurement applications. Constructed of heavy-duty 316 stainless steel wetted materials, it is designed for very dirty flows where residue buildup can occur over time on the sensors causing reduced accuracy. According to Sierra Instruments, the purge port has been field proven to remove even the toughest caked-on dust deposits and has overcome residue buildup in two challenging applications—in tire manufacturing where rubber particles in the air flow can clog orifice flow meters and in power plants where coal dust is a problem.
