Thermometers and thermowells
SWAGELOK CO., SOLON, OHIO. New dampened-movement bimetal thermometers operate at temperatures from -70 to 540 °C (-100 to 1,000 °F) and are available in adjustable-angle, center-back, and lower-back mount process connections. Every thermometer is factory calibrated, and the products feature external reset for field calibration. The thermometers are accurate to ±1 percent of full scale in accordance with ASME B40.200 and are actuated by a sensitive bimetal coil. Silicone-free gel in the thermometer stem dampens vibration. Dials are hermetically sealed to prevent fogging and to protect working parts. Thermowells are also available. They are designed to protect the thermometers from contact with viscous, pressurized, corrosive, or abrasive process fluids, and also to permit removal of thermometers for replacement or service without affecting the process or system. The thermowells are standard in 304 stainless steel, and 316 stainless steel is available upon request. The product is available in straight, reduced, and tapered shaft designs.

Continuous gasket vent
TECH-ETCH INC., PLYMOUTH, MASS. The company is offering honeycomb vents for EMI shielding with a new continuous integrated gasket. Continuous lengths of the beryllium-copper gaskets are mechanically installed under the inner perimeter of the vent’s aluminum extrusion frame. The entire vent system is plated as one piece, so all honeycomb cells, the integrated gaskets, and the frame are joined to increase conductivity and shielding effectiveness. The new gaskets are in stock and the efficient mechanical production method has reduced lead times. Tech-Etch manufactures custom and standard EMI shielded honeycomb vents and filters featuring strong, light-weight aluminum frames with various media options. Many RoHS compliant finishes are available. The company offers PDF files that discuss EMI shielding options through its Web site, at www.tech-etch.com/shield.

Explosive decompression resistance
TRELLEBORG SEALING SOLUTIONS, FORT WAYNE, IND. The company has introduced a selection of perfluorelastomer sealing materials under the name XploR, which Trelleborg is marketing particularly to the oil and gas industry. The portfolio includes compounds in HNBR, FKM, and Isolast perfluoroelastomer (FFKM), each of which demonstrates significant explosive decompression resistance. In independent tests, XploR materials were able to satisfy both the Norsok M-710 sour service and rapid gas decompression test conditions. Seals made of the perfluorelastomers are available in all standard international O-ring sizes and cross sections, and in custom-engineered solutions and specially designed seal profiles.

Laser tracker
FARO TECHNOLOGIES, INC. LAKE MARY, FLA. The company says its latest 3-D measurement system, the ION laser tracker, is the most advanced that it has introduced. The ION has improved the volumetric accuracy by 27 percent over the previous model to 0.002 in. (0.049 mm) at 33 feet (10 meters). The measurement diameter range has been extended 36 percent to 361 feet (110 meters), and the weight has decreased 12 percent to 39 lbs. (17.7 kg). A patented feature available exclusively in the ION is Agile ADM, an absolute distance meter that allows high density scanning without an interferometer. Applications for laser trackers include alignment inspection, machine installation, component inspection, tool building and setup, and reverse engineering.

Low noise sensors
COLUMBIA RESEARCH LABORATORIES INC., WOODLYN, PA. Three highly sensitive, ultra-low-noise servo accelerometers are designed for use in seismic, and low-level, low-frequency motion studies. The SA-107LN is a single axis unit, the SA-207LN is two axis, and SA-307LN three axis. All three make use of low-noise electronics in conjunction with the force balance principle to make it possible to measure in the low frequency micro-g range. They provide traditional dc-coupled zero output and ac-coupled zero output, which eliminates tilt induced or offset errors facilitating high amplification of the basic output. The accelerometers are self contained and available in various package styles. They provide high-level, low-impedance output, and no signal conditioning is required in most applications. The company recommends them especially for applications such as floor vibration, building motion, seismic detection, antenna stabilization, and earthquake monitoring.
