Vibration isolator
NEWPORT CORP., IRVINE, CALIF. The new S-2000 Stabilizer series of pneumatic vibration isolators incorporates many of the features found on other products offered by Newport, including a patented self-centering pendulum design, laminar-flow damping system and precision auto-leveling valves. But in addition, the S-2000 series adds such new features as recessed lifting channels, enhanced leveling indicators, and a lower magnetic permeability design. Indeed, Newport said the aluminum hybrid chamber design is significantly less magnetic than its previous I-2000 model. The company indicated that it is working on both fully non-magnetic and cleanroom compatible versions. With a 2,000-pound load capacity per isolator, the S-2000 is designed for isolator optical tables, large inspection equipment, and heavy machinery.

Metric leveling mounts
ALL METRIC SMALL COMPONENTS, NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. As an addition to its selection of standard machine components such as locks, screws and washers, All Metric Small Components recently introduced the MVAYNAM and MVAYNFM series of metric leveling mounts. Designed for use on machine tools, electronic racks, and benches, the leveling mounts swivel as much as 15 degrees from the centerline, enabling the mounts to perform on uneven surfaces. The mounts have fiberglass-reinforced Polyamide anti-slip isolator pads ranging from 40 to 80 mm in diameter. A jam nut is part of the leveling assembly of the mounts, which come in various sizes, up to 180 mm.

Digital pressure gauge
AUTOMATION PRODUCTS GROUP, LOGAN, UTAH Featuring a full five-digit display with large and easily readable 0.4 in. characters, the PG5 digital pressure gauge incorporates as standard a number of user-selectable setup features (such as automatic turnoff) which, the manufacturer said, are often add-on options with other gauges. The PG5 uses MEMS-based sensing technology to increase reliability and stability and delivers 0.01-digit resolution as standard through 100 psi. The gauge incorporates an all-stainless steel sensor that is resistant to most typical vibration and shock exposures and can provide accurate readings even with pulsating pressures. The PG5 is available with ranges from vacuum up to 500 psi, and from 0 up to 10,000 psi, and is self-powered by a standard 9 V battery. APG believes the new gauge is a good fit in laboratory, manufacturing, aviation, medical, and other applications where standard 2.5 in. or larger mechanical gauges are used.

Camera controls
TOSHIBA IMAGING SYSTEMS, IRVINE, CALIF. The company has increased the versatility of its IK-HD1 high definition camera with the introduction of two new camera control units. The IK-HD1D features the same 1080I video output as the IK-HD1, but it has an added DVI-I output on the rear panel. That feature enables the use of less costly high-definition control panels that accept DVI or HDMI signals instead of HD-SDI panels. The second new model, the IK-HD1E CCU, is designed to output HD-SDI and Y/Pb/Pr video signals in 50 Hz as well as 60 Hz. Toshiba is marketing the new control units to users in the scientific, diagnostic, homeland security and industrial inspection fields.

Piezoelectric pressure sensor
PCB AEROSPACE & DEFENSE, DEPEW, N.Y. Designed for measuring blast over-pressure and explosion pressure in free-field or closed arenas, new frequency tailored ICP and charge output piezoelectric pressure sensors have been introduced by PCB Aerospace & Defense. The series 113B and 102B quartz dynamic pressure sensors have a one microsecond response time, with resonant frequencies above 500 kHz. Frequency tailoring, which combines mass balancing and microelectronics, provides a fast response to shock waves without the high ringing amplitudes sometimes experienced with general purpose piezoelectric sensors, according to the company. Frequency tailoring also enables the sensors to capture both peak pressure and total impulse calculations. Each sensor is 100 percent in-process tested for resonant frequency, rise time, and acceleration compensation.

Thermal imaging
LONGWATCH, NORWOOD, MASS. The video surveillance system offered by Longwatch now has the capability to incorporate FLIR thermal imaging cameras. The real-time thermal images from these cameras will appear on standard HMI/SCADA screens and can be used with such software as Wonderware InTouch or GE Fanuc iFix. The new capability expands process monitoring, maintenance, and process diagnostics, because the infrared images allow operators to see product leaks, “hot spots” in a process, imperfections in finished goods, and other anomalies. Thermal images can be displayed side by side with video images on the same screen, for a complete picture of the process. Also, the cameras connect to Longwatch Video Engine software, which continuously records images from multiple thermal and standard video cameras onto a local disk for up to 30 days. The software can also send “video clips” over the plant network to the Longwatch Video Control Center in the plant’s control room.

Modular power distribution
AMERICAN POWER CONVERSION, WEST KINGSTON, R.I. A modular three-phase power distribution unit enables designers to incrementally boost power as data center demand grows. According to APC, the unit’s hot-swappable modular circuit breakers let technicians reconfigure rack power by adding or replacing circuit breakers, cordsets, and branch current monitors without taking down the system. According to APC, legacy designs use isolation/step-down transformers to distribute 208-volt power. APC’s new modular unit distributes three-phase power at 415 volts, using smaller copper cordsets to deliver more power at the same amperage to reduce electrical usage and heat load.
