Roller bearings

SKF USA Inc., Kulpsville, Pa.  SKF cylindrical roller bearings have unique logarithmically "crowned" rollers, providing improved contact geometry between roller and raceway. This roller profile reduces stresses under high loads, enables excellent performance even under misaligned conditions, and promotes cooler running to allow for high-speed operation and longer bearing life, according to the company. Precision-honed inner and outer ring, raceways, and rollers additionally improve lubricant effectiveness to contribute quieter, cooler, and reliable service. These bearings are for demanding applications such as compressors, industrial gearboxes, transmissions, and final drives in on-road and off-road vehicles.

Vertical conveyors

TKF Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio. Reciprocating vertical conveyors have counterweighted lift mechanisms that cut the effective unit load weight in half, thus reducing horsepower and power requirements. Standard models come with unit load capacities up to 6,000 lbs., with a vertical travel of up to 100 ft. Load and unload points can be incorporated at any height, and on any side of the unit. This permits "Z," "C," or right-angle flow. Lift speeds can range from 10 to 200 fpm, using either chain or belt drives, with the higher speeds made possible with variable frequency drives. The bed, while typically constructed of roller conveyor, can be designed using virtually any type of conveyor, including TKF's own PosiGrip. These reciprocating vertical conveyors are used in applications where items need to be moved from one level to another, including basements, mezzanines, balconies, within multistory buildings, or even from building to building— manufacturing to warehousing, for example.

Sensitive-fluid dispensing

Fluid Metering Inc., Syosset, N.Y. The VMP electronic variable displacement metering pump is for accurate dispensing of ultraviolet sensitive fluids. Typical fluids that fall into this category are UV curable adhesives, UV coatings, and photo lithography chemicals. The VMP variable displacement dispenser is a programmable dispensing system, which uses the company's patented CeramPump valveless piston pump design. A precision stepper motor controls the pump speed. What makes the VMP different from other FMI dispensers is the addition of a second stepper motor, which electronically adjusts the piston displacement. This provides ultrafine dispensing adjustments through the varying of the piston stroke length.

Piezo motors

MicroMo Electronics Inc., Clearwater, Fla. Linear and rotary piezo motors have simple, cost-effective, robust designs to meet the needs of applications from consumer electronics to metrology instrumentation. The Piezo Legs and PiezoWave motor lines eliminate common problems and offer new possibilities. Interfacing piezoelectric material directly with the output drive allows backlash-free positioning down to nanometer or microradian resolution, and eliminates the need for gearboxes, leadscrews, nuts, and other fragile transmission components, the company says. In addition to increasing longevity, the removal of complex transmission increases system efficiency. With better efficiency and low-voltage operation, the piezo motor is an alternative to many traditional motor solutions, especially for battery applications.

Taper gauging

Cincinnati Incorporated, Cincinnati, Ohio. The company's new system is said to speed and simplify taper gauging on press brakes for making angular bends. An option on Cincinnati press brakes, the new taper gauging system features six-axis gauge fingers and matching simulation graphics software that calculates and displays the correct gauging position. The system eliminates the trial-and-error physical positioning of stops to achieve the 3-point gauging needed to maintain the correct location of a taper bend line. The gauge finger design enables a variety of gauge points and positioning configurations to allow fast, programmed resetting of gauges for both taper and right-angle bends. A mitten-shape gauge finger design provides 2-point corner stops, requiring only a single point on the opposite finger to complete the 3-point gauging for a taper bend. The gauge fingers provide both gauging points and posts to accommodate different angles and part shapes.
